ALCOHOL The pure alcohol used is not insignificant because, for a perfume, it will constitute about 80% of the raw material, and remember that it will be in contact with your body. For this reason, we wanted an organic alcohol whose origin and content we are certain of. After several searches and trials, we opted for COSMENOL (brand name) from NADAL because it meets our criteria. It has no odor (except for the smell of alcohol) so that the essential oils (EOs) dissolved in it can fully express their olfactory power.

ESSENTIAL OILS (EOs) Regarding EOs, many are from organic farming and are certified by one of the European certification bodies (such as Ecocert, AB, etc.). If you wish for us to create a 100% organic perfume, we can do so and prove it to you via our technical sheets. We keep the formulas of all our creations. The extraction processes for EOs are numerous. When you obtain EO by mechanical extraction, centrifugation, or steam distillation via an alembic, you get an EO that can meet this type of label. Some EO extraction processes are chemical because a solvent other than water (Hexane, Ether, etc.) is absolutely necessary to extract them to offer us access to subtle fragrances. In such cases, we refer to them as complex natural extracts. If this is important to you, we will mention it, and you can always opt for a natural alternative and avoid this type of fragrance. Similarly, we personally prefer to use synthetic chemical molecules when we need to add animal notes to our creations. This is a personal choice to protect animals. In animal notes, here are some examples:
Musk, which is a secretion produced by a gland located under the skin of the abdomen of the musk deer (which lives in the Himalayas in Tibet). It was very present in perfumery in the past. It remains in the perfume ‘L’Heure Bleue’ because Maison Guerlain still has real musk in stock. Nowadays, it is prohibited, and musk is automatically a synthetic product.
Amber is a concretion found in the intestines of the sperm whale, which is expelled. It is found in the open sea or washed up on beaches. Very precious, it was once used in perfumes. Too expensive and too rare today, synthetic amber is used. It is still found in the extract of Chanel No. 5.
Civet is a secretion from the anal gland of the civet cat that lives in Ethiopia. This substance has a very strong fecal odor, and when mixed with other substances, the odor evolves differently. It was in the original No. 5 but no longer. Note that to extract the EO, the animal must be killed.
Castoreum is the secretion of two glands of the beaver. To extract it, the beaver must be killed. The species proliferates in Canada, causing significant damage. The EO is extracted from the animal, which is hunted for reasons other than its interest in perfumery. In ‘Arpège’ by Lanvin, there is natural castoreum
